Reunion at Acute Rehab at Skaggs

Reunion at Acute Rehab at Skaggs

On Thursday, in honor of Rehabilitation Week, our local Skaggs Hospital Acute Rehabilitation Unit held an open-house reunion for former patients during the past year. After Nancy's stroke on January 22, she spent about ten days at Acute Rehab in Physical and Occupational Rehabilitation. The staff was great and provided her with the therapy and support she really needed to return to her normal life at home at the cabin. She was hoping her room-mate, Hazel would be there as well. Turns out, Hazel was hoping the same thing. Neat! They were each happy to get to see each other again and compare notes!  ;-)

The staff had cake (including sugar free) and punch along with some trail mix at the tables. Here, Dr. Webber, the ARU Director, is getting a sample. He made the rounds of the tables, and spent two nice sessions talking with Nancy, Hazel and others at their table.

Here is a nice close-up of Nancy and Hazel.

Near the end of day, Loretta, the charge nurse most of the time Nancy was there, stopped by. So nice to see her!

A good time was had by all!  ;-)

Bolger Tours in Eureka Springs

Bolger Tours in Eureka Springs

On Tuesday, Sept 18, we drove down to Eureka Springs to meet Bob and Carol for the afternoon.
They were leading a church group tour from Baton Rouge for the week.

This was the sign outside the motel welcoming their bus tour to Eureka; along with another church tour coming in from Durant, Oklahoma

After talking for a while, when members of their group were taking trolley rides around town,
they invited us to join the group for dinner at a restaurant down the road a ways.
We decided to accept, and had a good time, meeting some of the group members, as well.

It was dark by the time we got back home, but it was a very special day!  ;-)

55th H.S. Class of 1957 Reunion - Coon Rapids, Iowa

55th H.S. Class of 1957 Reunion
Coon Rapids, Iowa

On Sep 7-8-9 Nancy and I were in Iowa to attend our 55th High School Class of 1957 Reunion - we were in the same class together, of course. I didn't take as many photos as I sometimes do, so some of them aren't as good as I sometime get, but these I have are pretty neat!

Probably the biggest surprise, for us, was getting to meet the daughter of our good friend in High School, Marcia Textor, who died in a car crash in 1972 (her obituary is as the end of the 2nd link, above), when her daughter, Melinda, was 2 years old.

Here are Nancy and Melinda early in the evening. Later, they had a chance to really exchange memories of Marcia.

Melinda came to our reunion with Marcia's sister, Sue Textor Carl. It was really neat to talk to her, as well. [She was in my brother Jim's class; they had their 50th reunion the prior weekend!]

Here Sue is talking to Andy Kretzinger.

When the class members lined up for a class picture, Melinda was kind enough to take some on my camera. Here were the four that came out best - we each had trouble standing still all at the same time!  ;-)

There were several other visitors from other classes ('55-'60 or so) - here are a couple of those, I didn't get them all...

Bob Whitten ('59) with Gary Hoover:

Dennis, Dick and Nancy just after the class photos were taken... before dinner...

About the same time, Larry Turner and Alice Christy Williams. Alice was good enough to coordinate the reunion (Ruth helped her, arranging the caterer, among other things). Alice had a short program after dinner.

Here are Marilyn and Nancy

During the program, Dennis Ford got a 'door prize' for being the oldest (no photo); Jerry Scott won for both the 'youngest' and for traveling the furthest this time - thus, the 'pacifier' and the 'motorcyle.'

Andy Kretzinger, and his wife, Kathy (left), received the 'rabbit' stuffed animal for having the most combined children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

This part of the reunion in these photos was on Saturday evening, at the Country Club at the Coon Rapids Golf Course. On Friday night, some of us gathered for supper at the Coon Bowl III (no photos). On Sunday, another mix of folks were invited to Lake Panorama for brunch and a boat ride (we came home).

If others have posted photos, I hope they will leave a link in the comments!  ;-)

A good time had by all!  ;-) See you all, and more, we hope, in five years!  ;-)
